When I was in college, I was looking forward to being rich with a $ 20K/yr income. Soon after I was saying if I only made $40K a year I would be happy and rich. I made $40K/yr and bought a house. Then I remember saying I would be rich if I made $80K a year. Then I made $80K and had a family and you know what I said next.
Well, I finally figured it out at age 50. I needed to make a good six-figure income and work when I wanted to, often 4 - 8 hours a week. But you can be poor at any income if you spend it all. Of course, if you own a self storage, you are lucky because the income keeps coming in every month. And you're building a nice retirement nest egg. income like self storage, you can be set because the money keep coming in every month and grows with inflation.
How to Make $300K and Still Be Broke:
Take-home pay after taxes: $230K Monthly expenses:
• Mortgage: $7K
• Car payments: $2K
• Student loans: $3K
• Private school: $4K
• Food/dining: $2K
• Shopping: $2K
• Travel: $1K
Monthly Total = $21/month = 252,000/year
Leftover: negative $22,000
.But what does everyone else see?
• A $1.3M home
• A BMW and a Mercedes
• A high-earning job
.• Kids at "elite" schools.
• Instagram photos galore
.• Luxury vacations.
So many high earners are one missed paycheck from disaster. Always remember: The most stable wealth is built quietly.
