Be prepared to ask the following questions:
What municipality has zoning authority over the site?
What departments have authority over zoning?
What is the proper zoning for self-storage?
If a zone change or variance is needed what is the process?
After the correct zoning is known, you will need to understand the requirements that will affect the layout and design of the facility.
This information will be very useful when drawing up your preliminary site plan.
What are the required building setbacks?
What is the maximum building coverage ratio?
What are the parking requirements?
Is green space required?
Are there any requirements for driveways such as widths or the material used?
Are there any construction restrictions that dictate the appearance of the property?
This initial meeting should provide you with an understanding of the likelihood of being able to develop a self-storage facility on the site.
The Storage Authority team is excited to guide you on your journey to becoming self-storage owners.
Let's build one for you or convert your existing facility to the Elite Storage Authority brand!
